The Coming Storm

by Ezekiel O'Brien in Life, Travel

The smoky, hazy skies of Northern California’s fire season have me dreaming of crisp, powdery winter plans. Right up there with my devotion to providing unique bodywork and high-quality outcall massage, I am a bona fide ski bum.

At age 12, with money I earned working at a frozen yogurt shop, I bought my first pair of skis at a ski swap and a season pass to my local mountain, Willamette Pass. I had never been skiing before but I knew this was something that would steer the rest of my life choices. At age 47, with 35 winters past, I still have a boyish excitement and rising wanderlust at the promise of coming snowfall.

This season I have purchased both the IKON and EPIC full-season passes: pass products that offer access to many mountains. To start the season, I’ve rented a room in Reno, Nevada for the full month of December, so my season will start at Heavenly, Kirkwood, Northstar, Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows.

After the snow piles up, there is no telling where I will be, although a predicted La Niña hints the Pacific Northwest; however, you can always check the “My Travels” section to see if I’m available to come to you for a relaxing Deep Esalen Massage.
