Some Like It Hot

One of the great joys of the nomadic massage life is getting to revisit special places throughout the West. Orvis Hot Springs, based on the outskirts of the Rocky Mountain-ringed Ridgway, Colorado – which I camp at when I ski in Telluride – is one of my very favorite places.

I grew up visiting hippy hot springs with my parents, and my love of the calming, reflective elements of hot water has not abated since. Orvis, which is clothing optional, definitely has a 1960’s vibe and is much cleaner than some of the places I visited in the 1980’s. It’s creative tubs range from 65 degrees to a lobster pot which is 112 degrees. And, while it can be quite cold to car camp there during ski season, as long as one remembers the gate code, a midnight plunge in the lobster pot will cure the chills.
