Healing Through Stillness

Experiencing a severe head injury is a lot like being sling-shot into a new, strange reality.

Meditation and yoga are essential to restoring some brain health normalcy after experiencing a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Meditation helps focus the mind which has been injured, scattered and affected by being shook. And, yoga helps with the equilibrium necessary for balance to move through life with grace.

Former Olympic athlete Kevin Pearce established the LoveYourBrain Foundation after sustaining a life-threatening TBI while training for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. The LoveYourBrain Froundation beautifully synthesizes and promotes yoga and meditation as an antidote to alleviate the challenges a TBI survivor experiences. Their class offerings are modified and patient for those of us who experience slower cognition.

I personally have a strong Kundalini Yoga practice I engage with every morning with my wife, so what I have gravitated to are the Zoom support groups for TBI survivors. It is so refreshing to not have to explain oneself, and to be collectively understood when speaking about brain injuries.

It is so wonderful that Mr. Pearce has turned a negative experience into a positive international movement and practice.
